ARSENAL loanee William Saliba clarified that he played the ‘best game of his career as Marseille drew with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Frenchman was extraordinary as he kept Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe calm throughout the 0-0 stalemate at the Stade Velodrome.

PSG right-back Achraf Hakimi was given his marching orders just before the hour but the Ligue 1 leaders went on to attack.

Saliba made an extraordinarily excellent last-ditch tackle on Mbappe in the 83rd minute as the superstar was through on goal.

The tackle crowned a completely brilliant showing and the 20-year-old reckons he has never played better.

Speaking after the game, William Saliba said: “I saw he made the ball so I was like, ‘Either take the red or I take the ball’.

“I tackled the ball well so there yougo.

“It’s the best game of my career, playing a ‘Classique’ at the Velodrome with this atmosphere.”

PSG are still leading having won nine, lost one, and drawn once in their opening 11 games as Marseille sits fourth.

Despite the supposedly outstanding draw, William Saliba – who is on a season-long loan from the Emirates – said Marseille’s players were disheartened they didn’t get more from the game.

He reflected: “Today we drew, it’s not that bad. We lacked a little efficiency, but from Wednesday we will try to bring all three points.

“It was a very good game, they scored the first offside goal, we equalized but that was also offside.

“It was a very good game with chances on both sides. With the red card, we hoped to bring back the three points but hey we drew.

“We must not be too downhearted and we must go forward.

“There is some regret because with the red card we would have hoped to take the three points, but we drew and it’s not that bad.

“They had the man sent off with 35 minutes left. At the start we had possession, then even with 10 men, they managed to gain some momentum.

“Up top, they have the best players in the world and we had to stay focused. Even with a man down, they managed to keep the ball and attack.

“The most important thing is that we didn’t concede a goal. Overall we had a good game.

“We showed a great spirit, we fought until the end and that’s what we want here.”

Fans were in shock at Saliba’s feat and the stats back them up.

The France U21 international was formidable in defense as he won 5 of 6 duels, 3 tackles, made an interception and a clearance apiece and won his only aerial duel.

He was also impressed with the ball at his feet as he played 57 passes with a precision of 96 percent.

Arsenal fans also loved what they saw as they likened Saliba to a ‘Rolls-Royce’ on social media.
