Three (3) undroppables Players Thomas Tuchel MUST Start to Win Arsen

Published

on

Thomas Tuchel rotated his squad at the weekend but still secured a fine 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium that lifted Chelsea up to third

Thomas Tuchel made five changes to his starting lineup for Saturday’s 2-1 win over Manchester City and while the team had a slightly different look to it, the momentum the head coach has built carried on.

Second half goals from Hakim Ziyech and Marcos Alonso secured a second win over City in three weeks for Tuchel, who will face Pep Guardiola again in another three weeks for the biggest game of them all – the Champions League final.

Where that will be played, we don’t yet know after Turkey was placed on the red list for travel by the UK Government on Friday.

Football.London has reported on Monday that Wembley is being considered, while Porto is also a potential venue for the game.

But before thoughts can turn to the Champions League, Chelsea still have three Premier League games and an FA Cup final against Leicester City to negotiate.

First up is a London derby against Arsenal on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge where the Blues can cement their top four hopes having moved up to third in the standings by beating City at the Etihad.

Andreas Christensen is a doubt for the game having been forced off shortly before half time on Saturday, while Mateo Kovacic remains a doubt with a long-standing hamstring issue.

Tuchel has previously said he was hopefully Kovacic could be fit for Arsenal but it seems the Leicester final this weekend is a more realistic option.

The German head coach opted to give the weekend off to Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva at the weekend to keep them fresh for the remaining five games of the 2021/22 season.

Mount and Chilwell are likely to come straight back in for the visit of Mikel Arteta’s side on Wednesday, who are having a tough campaign but did see off West Bromwich Albion at the weekend to get some confidence back that was shattered after their Europa League exit to Villarreal last Thursday.

Jorginho came off the bench at the Etihad to help the Blues’ quest for a winner, which they eventually found in the 92nd minute, and he too is likely to come back into the starting eleven for Wednesday’s game against a side who were linked with a move for him last summer.

Tuchel will find it tough to leave out Ziyech after his performance in east Manchester, likewise Billy Gilmour who had a fine outing in midfield. N’Golo Kante may well be in line for a bench place against the Gunners.

Up front, Kai Havertz will be pushing for a start as well having not featured against City. Christian Pulisic had an OK outing at the Etihad but might find his place under pressure from the young German forward, who has been in good form of late.

At the back, Christensen is highly likely to miss out so a rare start for Kurt Zouma is on the cards, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger alongside him in central defence.
