Although Chelsea are likely to be one of the Premier League’s biggest spenders as far as this summer’s transfer window is concerned, departures are also likely to be a common theme at Stamford Bridge.
Following last weekend’s UEFA Champions League final triumph over Manchester City, which saw the Blues run out 1-0 winners in Porto, head coach Thomas Tuchel has been busy putting plans in place ahead of next season.
After having such a remarkable impact on proceedings at Stamford Bridge since his January arrival, there is a level of expectation that the former Paris Saint-Germain chief can oversee a Premier League title charge next term.
To do that, though, the German, according to reports, is in need of adding three new faces to his squad in an attempt to take them to an even higher level of quality.
Tuchel is said to be on the hunt for a new right-sided defender, a central-midfielder and a striker, with Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland understood to be his top target.
Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi who recently helped the club win the UEFA Champions League.
Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi refuses to rule out key decision as Bayern Munich eye transfer.
If Chelsea are to land Haaland this summer, as well as bolster other areas of the squad, they are going to have to cut their cloth, which means offloading players that do not necessarily feature in Tuchel’s plans.
And one player that could be allowed to leave this summer is winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The Times report that German giants Bayern Munich have reignited their interest in the England international and that Chelsea would be ‘willing’ to listen to offers if they came their way.
Hudson-Odoi has made 18 appearances since the German arrived in west London, but a large number of those appearances have been from the bench. One of the England international’s cameo roles came in the 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in early-May, after which Tuchel sent a message to the winger, urging him to give everything he has got in every appearance he makes.
“The inside position where he played against Man City, this is maybe his best position, we agree on that,” Tuchel admitted.
“The big change he had when we brought him on was that it was not only one action that he had.
Within one action there were two or three accelerations and decelerations.
“Callum needs to understand how to use his potential.
He needs to understand how to push himself to the absolute limit, not be happy with 80, 85, 90, 95 per cent, He must simply be not happy about it any single day.
“This is the thing he has to learn, understand and live for.
“Once he does this, he will make his way and leave his footprint. In his position, it’s about assisting and scoring, Don’t forget that, we don’t have to talk around that.
“Big talent is a big responsibility and this is what he’s trying hard to realise. Sometimes better, sometimes ok, sometimes very, very good.
“When we have a chance we let him play. Don’t forget that we only have three changes in England, that is a big disadvantage for the guys like Callum and Tammy Abraham We can’t give them 20 minutes here and there that could make a huge difference to their feeling and development.”
With all of that said, it does, reading between the lines, seem that Tuchel wants Hudson-Odoi to give more and a lot more consistently than he has been doing.
