See the new name to challenge Alexandre Lacazette and Granit Xhaka for free-kick duty at Arsenal

The Gunners have a number of players who can score direct from set-pieces, with Nicolas Pepe and Granit Xhaka netting stunning efforts over the past two seasons

Mikel Arteta has a number of players at his disposal who are all very capable of scoring direct from a free-kick for Arsenal.

Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Granit Xhaka, David Luiz, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are usually found over the ball when the Gunners are awarded a set-piece in a dangerous area.

This season has seen Xhaka score a brilliant free-kick against Chelsea on Boxing Day as Arsenal’s Premier League revival began with a 3-1 win at the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, there was a stunning effort from captain Aubameyang to seal victory for 10-man Arsenal at home to Aston Villa last season.

Hot News!!   This Is Wrong!! Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta claims the Gunners are not his team

The Ivory Coast international repaid a large chunk of his club-record £72m transfer fee when he climbed off the bench to net two stunning free-kicks against Vitoria in the Europa League group phase.

With that said, Arsenal have only scored directly from a free-kick once this season and it could be time for the likes of Xhaka, Pepe, and Lacazette – who hit the crossbar against Manchester United – to step aside and let a teammate have a go.

And a new name might have just staked his claim to be on free-kick duty from now on.

Midfielder Martin Odegaard, who joined on loan until the end of the season from Real Madrid in the January transfer window, has revealed that the best goal he’s ever scored was from a free-kick.

“The best goal I ever scored, I think was a free-kick with the national team [U21’s) against Kosovo,” he told Arsenal Media.

You can view the excellent free-kick right here, as Odegaard’s set-piece prowess is on show.

Odegaard made his Gunners debut in the goalless draw against Manchester United last week as was an unused substitute in the 2-1 loss away at Wolves in midweek.

But with the games coming thick and fast, it should allow the 22-year-old to get more game time.

And Arsenal fans may get the chance to see how good Odegaard is at free-kicks if an opportunity arises between now and the end of his loan spell.
