SURPRISING: Chelsea had agreed a fee for Slonina with Chicago Fire before UK government action

Chelsea had made a deal with the Chicago Fire

The Chelsea government seized the club shortly after an agreement with the Chicago Fire for the signing of goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina.

Fabrizio Romano reports that talks with MLS teams for goalkeeper Slonina, 17, have fallen through due earlier this month, the UK Government frozen the Blues owner’s assets, making it impossible for Stamford Bridge to sign players.

Towards the end of Chicago’s 2021 season, Slonina established himself as the team’s top choice. Chelsea will be further frustrated by his success at the beginning of the 2022 campaign.

Despite his tender age, Slonina stands 6’4″ tall between the sticks and has allowed just one goal in four games, following 0-0 draws and 2-0 and 3-1 wins.
