Sergio Aguero apologises to Man City fans for dreadful Panenka penalty miss that give Chelsea the winning opportunity

Sergio Aguero has apologised to Man City fans for his Panenka penalty miss against Chelsea after Pep Guardiola’s men squandered their opportunity to seal the title.

Aguero missed from 12 yards shortly before half-time to double the hosts lead before the Blues turned the game on its head to seal a 2-1 Premier League win to delay City’s title-winning party.

Aguero has apologised for his costly penalty miss against Chelsea, while Redknapp branded the spot kick a ‘pa-stinker’

Victory over the side they will face in the Champions League final in three weeks’ time would have seen City confirmed as Premier League champions for the third time in four years on Saturday.

And Aguero has now apologised for hit ‘bad decision’ and said he will take ‘full responsibility’ for the decision.

He tweeted: “I would like to apologise to my teammates, staff and supporters for missing the penalty. It was a bad decision and I take full responsibility.”

Jamie Redknapp labelled Aguero’s penalty as a ‘pa-stinker’ in the Sky Sports studio at half time of the clash, whilst talkSPORT commentator Sam Matterface said it was ‘pathetic’.

Redknapp said: “The pa-nenka. The pa-stinker. He looks over at the manager. Like when you’re a naughty boy at school and you look at the teacher.

‘I don’t know what he’s thinking. Just finish it!’

Matterface, meanwhile, said: “He’s chipped the ball straight into the arms of Mendy.

“It’s the most casual, pathetic penalty you have ever seen!”

“Yeah, the goalkeeper has read it,” former City star Trevor Sinclair replied.

“It was fantastic play from Mendy, he stayed on his feet and kept his nerve.

“Aguero tried to Panenka it right down the middle of the goal and it’s an easy take. It’s let Chelsea off the hook.”

“It was just ridiculously nonchalant,” added Matterface. “It wasn’t even a good Panenka, it was dying before it got to the line.

“It was pretty poor, a really odd decision to make for Man City’s record goalscorer with the opportunity to put the Premier League title race to bed.”
