Premier league player of the year

Who is the English Premier League Player of the Year? After coming close to winning his second Premier League title, Mohamed Salah beat Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City to win his second Player of the Year trophy. Sam Kerr is the first Australian footballer to win the award.

The 2022 PFA Players’ Player of the Year awards went to Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Sam Kerr of Chelsea.

After almost winning his second Premier League title, Salah beat Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City to win his second Player of the Year award.

The 29-year-old beat Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, and teammates Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane to win the award. He also made the 2022 PFA Premier League team of the year. Heung-Min Son of Tottenham, who tied with Salah for the Golden Boot, did not make the shortlist or the best XI.

Salah scored 23 goals in the league and had 14 assists during the 2021–22 season. He had a hat-trick and an assist as Liverpool beat rivals Manchester United 5-0 at Old Trafford, where he also had a hat-trick. The Egyptian player also won the League Cup and the FA Cup with Liverpool. He came close to winning the Champions League and the Africa Cup of Nations, but Liverpool lost both finals.

Members of the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) vote on who should win each award. They choose the players they think have been the best all year. Salah is now one of only nine players in history to have won two PFA Players’ Player trophies. The others are Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lucy Bronze, Kevin De Bruyne, and Fran Kirby.

Salah said: “It’s a big deal to win a trophy, whether you do it alone or with a group, and this one is big, so I’m very happy and proud about that.

“This is a great one to win, especially since players vote on it. It shows how hard you’ve worked and that you’re getting what you deserve. My trophies are in a cabinet in my room, and I made sure to leave room for one more. I always leave space and just try to picture the trophies coming.

“When you get older, you feel more stable and you know exactly what you want from football, so I’m just trying to chill out and help the team.

“That’s why I think I also won the playmaker. You’re more aware of the game, so you just try to make the people next to you better and make yourself better, too.”

With his second win, Salah joins the elite.

Nick Wright of Sky Sports:

Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Gareth Bale, Christiano Ronaldo, Lucy Bronze, Kevin De Bruyne, and Fran Kirby. Mohamed Salah is next. After winning the award for the first time in 2017/18, the Egyptian is only the ninth player to win it a second time.

He is with good people, and there is no question that he deserves to be there.

Salah couldn’t stop Liverpool from coming up agonizingly short in the Premier League title race, but he made a strong case for himself to win the major individual prizes.

Salah had the most goals and the most assists. He scored 23 goals and shared the golden boot with Heung-Min Son of Tottenham. No one else came close to his 36 goals, and the 29-year-old was involved in nearly 40% of Liverpool’s goals.

The numbers show that he is also in a league of his own.

Salah’s expected goals number was the highest in the division, and he also had the most shots, shots on target, and touches in the other team’s box. Harry Kane of Tottenham was the only player who made more big chances than anyone else. Salah was also one of the best at dribbling and making open-play chances.

Because of how much he did, he deserves to win. He also deserves to be in the small group of players who have won it twice.

Kerr wins the first award for an Australian.

Sam Kerr, who won the Golden Boot, is the first footballer from Australia to win the award. Fran Kirby, who played for Chelsea, came close to winning the award in 2021.

This year’s winner was the forward, who beat out Vivianne Miedema, Pernille Harder, Alex Greenwood, Lauren Hemp, and Kim Little.

Kerr led the Women’s Super League in goals scored this season with 20. She was a big part of Emma Hayes’ team that won the domestic double. She scored two goals, one of which was the game-winner in extra time, as Chelsea beat Manchester City to win back-to-back FA Cups.

The 28-year-old forward also scored twice in the last WSL game of the season, which was against Manchester United. This ended Arsenal’s hopes of winning the league title and helped Chelsea win a historic third straight league title for the first time in history.

After Harry Kewell won the Young Player of the Year award in 2000, Kerr is the first Australian woman to win a PFA award. Kerr made the PFA WSL team of the year because of how she played this year.

Kerr said: “When your peers vote for you, I think it is a huge honor. As a player, I think that’s the highest honor, so it’s a great feeling.”

When asked about some of her shows during the 2021/22 season, Kerr said: “As a player, I do a lot of things. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don’t, but I think you have to see yourself in those times.

“I just believe in myself, to be honest. Just a lot of faith that the team will trust me and give me the ball in the 90th minute or whenever it is. When I know that my team trusts me, I feel very sure of myself. As a football player, those big moments are what I live for.”

Kerr is a deserving winner.

Charlotte Marsh of Sky Sports says:

Sam Kerr has to find room for another trophy every week. This season, she has already won the WSL title, the FA Cup, the WSL Golden Boot, and the FWA Women’s Footballer of the Year award, to name a few.

She also needs them. Fran Kirby, Pernille Harder, and Bethany England have been in and out of the team this season due to injury and illness, but Kerr has played every game for Chelsea and has some of the best offensive stats in the league.

She had the most WSL goals (20) and the most big chances (11) and was second to Vivianne Miedema in shots (70) and shots on target (39).

Even more impressive is the fact that she has not scored a penalty goal for Chelsea this season. Instead, all of her goals have come from open play.

Just her last four goals of the season show how classy she is and how well she can play when it counts. Kerr’s two goals against Manchester United in the last WSL game of the season were two of the best goals you will see in any league this year.

She then scored the game-winning goal in extra time against Manchester City, showing once again how important she is to the Blues. Even though soccer is a team sport, Kerr pretty much won both trophies this season for Chelsea.

In interviews, she comes across as very nice but not very confident. Her years in the WSL haven’t changed her laid-back Australian style. But underneath, she is one of the best strikers in women’s football and has an unbreakable drive to win.

A great player on and off the field who deserves to win.

Hodgson and Powell win a PFA merit award

The 2022 PFA merit award was given to Roy Hodgson and Hope Powell, who were both former England managers. The award was given to them for their outstanding contributions to football.

Hodgson said last month that he was leaving football management after more than 40 years. When the award was given to him, he said: “It’s a real honor to get this award, and the fact that it came as a surprise makes me even more thankful. As a player, I never won any trophies, so it is nice to be recognized by other professionals. It will have the best spot.

“When you’ve had a long, successful career, you have to look back on it with a lot of gratitude and modesty. You realize that there were a lot of good things that happened along the way, and I’ve had that good luck that everyone needs. I have always tried to do my job with passion, and I have always tried to bring a certain amount of energy and enthusiasm to it. These are two very important qualities for anyone in football, whether they are a player, manager, or coach.

“I will always be grateful and humble for what football has given me, and it’s great to get a trophy that shows people think I’ve given something back. I’ll keep this trophy close to my heart.”

Powell, the manager of Brighton, said: “It’s a real honor to get this trophy. I feel lucky and blessed to still be playing after all these years.

“One of the nice things about being involved in soccer is that I have had a lot of different experiences over the years, whether as a player or manager at FIFA World Cups, European finals, the Olympics, and now at Brighton and Hove Albion. Each part has been very different, but most of them have been fun, and I feel very lucky to be in this position.

“I’ve never been afraid to ask questions and challenge people. I think that, along with a lot of other people, I’ve helped shape the game and move it forward. So, I hope people will remember me as someone who cared about women’s football on a local and national level and wanted the best for it.”
