Paris Saint-Germain sporting director, has admitted that he doesn’t regret allowing Thomas Tuchel and Thiago Silva leave psg

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director, Leonardo has admitted that he doesn’t have any regrets about sacking Thomas Tuchel and allowing Thiago Silva to leave the club last summer.

The 51-year-old Brazilian has made the admission after watching the pair playing key roles in helping Chelsea win the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2012 on Saturday evening at the Estadio do Dragao in Porto.

Attacking-midfielder Kai Havertz netted the only goal of the game just three minutes before half time to secure a 1-0 win for the Blues over Manchester City, with Tuchel’s side producing an excellent performance to leave a star-studded City side reflecting on what might have been.

Whilst it was a tremendous achievement for everyone involved, it will have no doubt felt that extra bit special for both Tuchel and Silva.

The pair experienced the pain of losing a Champions League final less than 12 months ago when PSG lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich in the final.

The defeat to the German heavyweights marked Silva’s last game for the club before being released, whilst Tuchel was sacked a few months later.

With PSG having fallen at the semi-final stage in this season’s competition and Chelsea going all the way, PSG bosses may have been regretting their decision to axe Tuchel when they did.

However, Leonardo has admitted that isn’t the case, insisting Tuchel’s success at Chelsea is the life of football.

“PSG made a good choice [to let him go]. These are cycles that pass in a club.

“Thiago Silva too, it’s great to see him, even if he’s injured.”

Tuchel and Silva have become instant hits at Stamford Bridge this season, especially the former following the impact he has had in such a short space of time.

The German was only installed as Frank Lampard’s successor on January 26 and has since guided the club to the Champions League title, the FA Cup final and a top four finish in the Premier League.

Those achievements are set to see Tuchel rewarded with a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge by owner Roman Abramovich.

The German, held talks with Abramovich on Sunday morning about extending his stay in west London. Tuchel signed an 18-month deal upon his arrival in January.
