Mikel Arteta comment on Emile Smith Rowe’s recent situation of being left out of the starting XI, saying it was a result of the high competitive level among the squad

Smith Rowe, 21, was the Arsenal Best player during most part of the first half of the this term and he is also the club’s leading scorer for this season with 9 goals in 21 appearance.

After sustaining a slight muscular strain in December, the Englishman international has been relegated to the bench for Arsenal’s last 4 Premier League matches.

In Smith Rowe’s absence, Gabriel Martinelli has thrived, securing his place in the starting XI, despite the latter’s three goals when substituted in.

When asked about Smith Rowe’s lack of playing time ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup third-round match against Nottingham Forest, Arteta said the teenager was not fully fit.

“Well, the main reason (was) that he wasn’t fully able to play,” Arteta said of Smith Rowe.

“He’s had an issue that has prevented him from training or playing on a regular basis, and that was the main cause.

“Mainly based on his recent performances and what he has accomplished prior to the international break, he was without a doubt one of our most important and consistent players.

“The only thing that has changed the dynamic is that – and to be obvious, now that the team is doing well, there are other guys who are performing well. That changed many things, but I’m still pleased with him.”

Arsenal travel to face Nottingham Forest tommorow at the FA cup Mikel Arteta would mostly likely put Smith Rowe in his lineup due to the number of team player available and the quality of the opponent
