Man United fans may face UEFA sanctions for throwing bottles at Diego Simeone

After Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone suffered a 1-0 loss to Manchester United on Tuesday, some United supporters threw objects at him.

Having knocked United out the Champions League, Simone ran straight down the tunnel avoiding bottles, cups and all manner of objects along the way.

The Times notes that UEFA would be receiving the referee’s post-game report on Wednesday. Slavko Vincic was also hit by missiles as he left the field, and he will now reflect on the incidents he and Simeone faced.

Tottenham were recently fined after fans were seen throwing projectiles in December and Simeone claimed the punishment missed the object. The UEFA Disciplinary Regulations specifically cover the throwing of objects from the crowd.

The moment I stepped off the field, I ran. I love to enjoy the moment in the dressing room, so I don’t know how I ended up running. All i taught of was changing.

United interim boss Ralf Rangnick was equally brutal regarding Vincic’s performance during the game. “It was hard in the second half and there always seemed to be a lot of interruptions,” he said.

“I don’t know if we were naive against a team like Atletico who are the champions of that style of football, but I don’t think they were very decisive. At least he fell for those time-wasting antics too often and those four minutes at the end added on were a joke for me.”
