Good News: Marcus Rashford fit for Manchester United’s clash against Sheffield United after scan results show no major damage

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be breathing a huge sigh of relief after scan results on star striker Marcus Rashford showed he had avoided major damage to his knee.

The striker limped out of United’s 3-2 FA Cup win against Liverpool and headed straight down the tunnel. Rashford provided an assist and scored in the victory against the Reds but Solskjaer sounded downbeat about his fitness after the win, suggesting that the England striker had suffered a knee injury.

The 23-year-old was seen holding the back of his knee as he made his way back to the dressing room but the Telegraph report that scan results have shown Rashford has suffered some minor bruising only. Rashford hobbled down the tunnel before full-time

The fact that Rashford has avoided any significant muscle damage puts him into contention to face the Blades, who travel to Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Solskjaer may choose to rest Rashford given the bruising and he has the likes of Anthony Martial and Daniel James to call upon in attack should he opt to rotate.

United face Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday and the Norwegian may decide to keep Rashford fresh to face the Gunners as the Red Devils look to maintain their title challenge.

Solskjaer’s side are on a fantastic run of results but David De Gea – who is one of only two remaining players in the squad to have won the Premier League – has urged his team-mates to remain focused and not to get carried away. ‘I think the most important thing is just to be focused on the next game,’ De Gea said.

‘Don’t think a lot about the next matches coming up, just the next one. You need to be 100 per cent on it for that match and to try to get the three points. ‘For me, it’s easy [to focus on one game at a time]. I just come in, train, give everything and just prepare for the next game, nothing else, not the games after that one, just the next one. And try to win of course.’
