Goalkeeper Ryan talks about why it didn’t work at Arsenal

Mat Ryan missed out on a move to Arsenal last summer after spending six months on loan at Arsenal before leaving Brighton for La Real.

I was told by him that the club would try to sign me permanently. Throughout the summer, we had to wait. The club did not contact us directly. Finally, I was offered by Sociedad. We went back to Arsenal and they simply said that I was out of the running.

I exceeded everyone’s expectations and caused him quite a bit of trouble in the selection process.

“I had a sit-down with Arteta at the end of the season, just before summer ended,” Ryan revealed of his time in La Liga. “We discussed the prospects of a permanent move, but it’s changed.”
