Finally Kai Havertz open up on playing false 9 Under Thomas Tuchel and how he needs to improve

Yesterday saw Chelsea get back to winning ways in the Premier League, after conceding 5 goals last time out to West Brom.

After a great win in Europe in midweek, the Chelsea boys pretty much returned to business as usual with a very comfortable win over Crystal Palace on Saturday evening.

In fact, they put 4 goals past Palace and could easily have scored 4 more. This was one of the best Chelsea performances in some time, and Kai Havertz was key to a lot of the good attacking play that we did.

A lot has been spoken about his false 9 role that he is playing recently, and whether it is the right line up that Chelsea should be using.

But you cannot deny that Havertz looks very good there and has been improving since he has been playing in that role.

Havertz was speaking about playing false 9 and also highlights where he needs to improve, as reported by the Chelsea website.

He said:

“In my position, you always want to score. In the last few months it was not easy, I did not have so many chances. In this game [vs Palace] I had some the chances. I could have scored one or two goals more but we are happy with the result.

“I like it [False 9 role], I think it is a good position for me. I have the freedom to go everywhere I want to go.

“As a striker it is always easy to play with players of those qualities. I know we train it very often in training but after one game when you win 4-1 it is easy to say we are a good attacking team. But we have to prove that on Tuesday again and on Saturday again and after the season we can speak about it.

“After such a game it is easy to say that I am at my best. I think I have to prove it in more games than only one but I will give my best, I will try to improve and I hope that I will continue like that.”
