Christian Pulisic’s recovery to Chelsea training ahead of the Blues clash with Brentford on Saturday furnishes Thomas Tuchel a new attacking alternative to the team with Romelu Lukaku as he strives for equilibrium with the Belgian in the attack.

Christian Pulisic’s goal on the opening day of this season against Crystal Palace feels like a very long time ago.

In August, when the American netted the Blues second and ran away in celebration, there was hope the winger could finally put his prior injury issues behind him and make a strong case to remain in Thomas Tuchel’s best-attacking lineup.

It was only days later concerns arose when Pulisic was excluded from the Blues open training session in front of fans at Stamford Bridge.

Coming before the trip to Arsenal on the following weekend, Tuchel and Pulisic verified he had tested positive for COVID-19 and would self-isolate, ruling him out of the London derby and then the trip to Anfield a week later.

The ‘world-class’ star Thomas Tuchel must not forget at Chelsea despite early battles

Heading off for the September international break offered Pulisic the chance to get back on the pitch and regain form, but no sooner had he returned to action than he was sidelined again, limping off injured during the United States win over Honduras in a World Cup Qualifier.

The ankle injury has forced the 22-year-old out of action since meaning his return to first-team training this week in preparation for the short trip to face Brentford could end a run of nine games without the American for Chelsea.
