Chelsea under-fire goalkeeper drops hint about his future

The Spain international Kepa Arrizabalaga claims to have “never thought about’ quitting Chelsea and had “no problem” with club legend Frank Lampard in spite of being dropped by the former Blues head coach.

The most expensive shot-stopper in world football, with a £71 million price tag hanging over Kepa’s head, has endured a testing time of late.

Eye-catching errors led to Edouard Mendy being drafted in as the new number one at the club in the summer of 2020, with serious questions being asked of how long Arrizabalaga would stick around as understudy.

The 26-year-old former Athletic Bilbao youngster has told Tiempo de Juego: “I have never thought about leaving Chelsea.

“In my very good [first] season we won the Europa League, qualified for the Champions League, and I was playing for the national team. The second year we changed coaches.

“With Lampard there had been no problem. I haven’t given my best version [and] it is true that I have not played how I wanted to play.”

The Spain international, who is now up to nine outings for the campaign, started the 2020-21 term between the sticks for Chelsea.
