Join us as we get you up to speed with all the latest Chelsea news as Thomas Tuchel’s men prepare to take on Sheffield United in the Premier League this evening.

Ziyech tipped to reach potential at Chelsea
Former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has tipped Chelsea midfielder Hakim Ziyech to get to his best level following his £33.4million move from Ajax in the summer.

Speaking about Ziyech and Manchester United’s Dutchman Donny van de Beek, Kuyt told Voetbal Primeur: “They have performed fantastic in the Champions League, and have shown that they can compete with the absolute top of the world.

“Then you come to Chelsea or United and then you want to continue that. It just takes time. If you look at the qualities of those players, I am convinced that if they can keep the patience, they will get there.

“They are going to experience a very nice period there. ”

Tuchel ‘cannot care less’ about top four race right now and that is not the only good news for Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel as Kurt Zouma has also resumed training after the pair had to leave Wednesday morning’s session having picked up “little issues”.

“We had two little issues today on the training pitch,” Tuchel confirmed in his pre-Tottenham press conference. “It was Kurt Zouma and Kai Havertz who went off the pitch with little issues so they are checking issues and doing images right now.

“It is questionable if they are in the squad for tomorrow. Everyone else is available.”

As it turned out, neither player made the Chelsea matchday squad for the 1-0 win in the London derby.

The good news for Tuchel, Havertz and Zouma were both in full training ahead of the clash away at Sheffield United this evening.

Havertz has endured a slow start since his £72million move to Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, scoring five and assisting six in 26 appearances across all competitions.

Though, his settling-in period at Stamford Bridge has been far from settled having contracted coronavirus earlier in the season and seen Frank Lampard replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

Havertz hasn’t been helped by the level of competition in the Chelsea squad this season, either, but excuses won’t do the Germany international much good as he looks to kick on at Stamford Bridge.

Or at least that’s according to former Chelsea and Leverkusen midfielder Ballack, who has told Havertz to fight for his spot in Tuchel’s starting XI with the midfielder having only started one of three games so far.

“It is important for Chelsea to understand that if you buy a player with that kind of potential, then you have to give him time, bit by bit,” Ballack told The World Game.

“So he can be in that role and that the team can be built around him. At the moment there are too many players that fight for many positions. There are only a few players that are so to speak ‘untouchable’.

“Therefore he now faces a normal competitive scenario. It just depends on him, if he is able to win it. He needs that will, but if he sees it and takes on the fight then he will be able to get that spot as he has exceptional football qualities.

“However it is a different level than at Leverkusen. Therefore he has to live with it.”
