Christian Pulisic sent strong Chelsea message as Thomas Tuchel makes Premier League history
All the very latest Chelsea news, views and transfer rumours from football.london following the Blues’ solid 2-0 home victory over Everton on Monday evening in the Premier League
Here is your Chelsea morning digest for Tuesday, March 9.
Tuchel lifts lid on Pulisic’s lack of minutes
Chelsea claimed a second successive Premier League win last night, defeating Everton 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
An own-goal from Toffees defender Ben Godfrey ensured the Blues held the lead at the half-time interval before a second half penalty from Jorginho ensured Thomas Tuchel maintained his unbeaten start to life in charge, as well as cementing their place in the top-four.
What was all the more impressive about the Blues’ latest victory was that it came even with Tuchel making five changes to the starting line-up, despite Thursday’s impressive win at Liverpool.
Whilst Kurt Zouma, Marcos Alonso and Kai Havertz all benefited from the German’s rotation policy, there was no such luck for Christian Pulisic, who got just a matter of minutes under his belt when he stepped off the bench as the game headed towards stoppage time.
Explaining why the former Borussia Dortmund is struggling for opportunities at this moment in time, Tuchel said: “Yes, I can say nothing else but good things about him. Maybe his biggest problem is that I know him from Dortmund and I think he started only in the cup games.
“It is my responsibility and it is a bit unfair but I know what impact he can have in the last 20 or 30 minutes.
“He was a bit unlucky in the last few games. It isn’t a lack of trust or quality, it is just that he will have to be patient.”

Lineker raves about Havertz
Former England striker Gary Lineker took to social media during the second half of last night’s match to heap praise on the performance of attacking-midfield ace Havertz.
The former Bayer Leverkusen man, who was one of the five changes made by Tuchel, played a key role in both of the Blues’ goals, ensuring he made the most of the opportunity presented to him.
For the Blues’ opener, Havertz connected with Alonso’s centre and saw his effort deflect into the back of the net off Godfrey before he won the Blues a penalty in the second half after being brought down inside the box by Jordan Pickford.
His contributions certainly caught Lineker’s attentions, who quickly waxed lyrical about the 21-year-old’s performance..
Tuchel makes history
The Blues’ 2-0 win over Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton last night cemented Tuchel’s place in Premier League history.
Following Chelsea’s decision to appoint the German as Frank Lampard’s successor in late-January, the former Paris Saint-Germain boss has had quite the impact, winning eight of his first 11 games in charge in all competitions.
While winning eight of your first 11 games in any job is impressive, Tuchel has also made Chelsea’s defensive line rock solid, conceding just two goals during that time.
However, the spot in Premier League history that Tuchel has earned himself is in regards to Chelsea’s clean sheet record at Stamford Bridge.
Last night’s win against Everton was a fifth successive home clean sheet in the Premier League for Chelsea, meaning Tuchel has become the first manager in Premier League history to start his career at a club with such a record.
Since landing the job, Tuchel has seen his side record shut outs at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Burnley, Newcastle United, Manchester United and now Everton.
