Newcastle United have reportedly begun talks with a former Arsenal winger Marc Overmars about joining in a director of football role following their £305m takeover.

Former Arsenal winger Marc Overmars could be the first high-profile addition at Newcastle United.

Following their dramatic £305million Saudi Arabian-backed completed takeover, the Magpies are now the richest club in the Premier League and theirer plans would be to be a threat both financially and game wise to other EPL clubs

According to the Mirror, the Dutchman has been in contact with the Magpies following their takeover and is eager in quitting his post at Ajax to seal a shocking return to the Premier League.

Furthermore, the report conveys that Overmars has been told he will be given the help at Newcastle ‘to awaken the sleeping giant’.

Organizing a solid system of developing young players and then selling for huge profit, this self-sustaining norm has enabled Ajax to keep strong and a force to reckon with Europe’s elite too, with the past five years bringing a Europa League final and a Champions League semi-final.

In negotiating and selling  the likes of Donny van de Beek, Frenkie de Jong, Hakim Ziyech, Matthijs De Ligt, and Davinson Sanchez in latter years, Overmars demonstrated with getting £263m for those five deals that he is the transfer specialist that Arsenal need.

The way Overmars utilizes in the transfer market is intelligent and clearly effective, which should arouse Arsenal as Newcastle could be the ones to benefit in the near future.

In 2021 alone, Mesut Ozil, Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis all left Arsenal without the club receiving a single penny despite spending £95.1m to sign the trio.

Whilst Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu can point to the fact that those deals required to be done in order for the club to move forward and reduce the wage bill, the Gunners need to get better at player sales.

That is an area where Overmars could enhance for Arsenal, which in turn would furnish Arteta with extra funds to invest in his first-team squad and possibly bring back the glory days.

There has been interest on Overmars’ side about returning to north London in the past, as football.london exclusively revealed in 2019 that he wanted the role of director of football operations.

However, they opted to look elsewhere. Two years on and with Arsenal still yet to master the art of the transfer market, it may be worth Kroenke and the decision-makers at the club hijacking Newcastle’s plans to appoint one of the best directors of football around.
