Match Preview, Team News and How to Watch Online – Arsenal vs Liverpool Semi-final at Emirates Stadium

Arsenal vs Liverpool - Emirates Stadium

Arsenal face Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final encounter, and they are one match away from yet another Wembley showpiece.

Here’s a look at the match preview between the gunners and Liverpool.

Since the previous time these two sides met, it’s been a tumultuous week. Arsenal becoming England’s most despised club by just achieving Premier League delay requirements was the main event.

Arsenal’s plea to move Sunday’s North London Derby was accepted because the club was unwilling to field 13 players on the pitch and one goalkeeper due to injury.

The rules for legitimate postponement, as well as those followed by all other clubs who have had games postponed, meant Arsenal’s request to move Sunday’s North London Derby was approved.

It’s a ludicrous rule that shouldn’t apply to absences due to anything other than Covid instances, but it is, and now every neutral in the country will be rooting for Liverpool to win this tie.

Arsenal vs Liverpool: Carabao Cup semi-final second leg preview

With Arteta’s side battling with Covid with injury absences for Thursday’s big game after battling to a 0-0 tie at Anfield despite Granit Xhaka’s red card reducing Arsenal to eleven men for more than 70 minutes, this match is practically a one-off game with the victor taking all.

The Carabao Cup does not have an away goals rule, so if there is a score tie, the match will go to extra time and penalties. Arsenal would be clear favorites to win tonight if it weren’t for the fact that they are severely weak across the field.

The Gunners’ fine home form and raucous atmosphere will not make this easy for the visitors, especially after they had some extra time off to rest, recover, and hopefully welcome players back after their brave away displaying against a Reds side without their 2 key men up front – Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Following the Spurs postponement, a siege mentality is emerging, and there is no doubt among many of the players that they truly want this. It was evident at Anfield, and the result will only have fueled their enthusiasm.

That, along with a support that feels the same way – the ticket scramble is well and truly underway – begs the question: why can’t Arsenal schedule a Wembley match versus Chelsea?

It’s possible that their lack of a midfield will hinder them. Regardless, if Arsenal can field a team, it should be a great game.
