All you need to know about Arsenal first January signing ‘Lino Da Cruz Sousa’

Lino Da Cruz Sousa

Lino Da Cruz Sousa, a 16-year-old bright prospect from West Bromwich Albion, has become Arsenal’s first January transfer window addition.

The left-back has attracted the attentions of those in charge at the Gunners’ legendary Hale End academy, and he is being tipped as a future superstar when he grows.

Because of his abilities, Sousa spent last season to play in the Baggies U-18 side, which is two years over his own age group.

The full-back, who will be 17 in mid-January, has so far met his new Arsenal colleagues, taking part in a training session with other young Gunners earlier this month.

While Sousa has Brazilian relatives and would thus be entitled to represent the Selecao if the opportunity arose, it appears that Sousa has already declared his international colors.

The 16-year-old has played for England at both the Under-16 and Under-18 levels and is on his way to becoming a Three Lions legend.

Sousa’s progress was being monitored by a number of Premier League clubs, but according to, Arsenal has won the race to recruit him.

Sousa has been signed by the Gunners with both eyes fully placed on his future first-team chances rather than being rushed into Mikel Arteta’s plans this season, despite having yet to make a first-team debut at the Hawthorns.

Peter Gilbert, the manager of West Brom’s U-18 team, has already stated how fantastic Sousa may become.

“Sousa is a brilliant full-back who understands the game well and has a delightful left foot,” he explained. ”
Per Mertesacker, Arsenal’s head of academy operations and a former central defender, is considered to have been the one who brought up the need for a left-back in the young ranks.

Given the number of glaring weaknesses in Arteta’s list in the run-up to several season-defining games, Sousa is highly doubtful to be Arsenal’s final business this window.

Arsenal will strive to complete some transfers this month, according to Mikel Arteta.

Arteta had also confirmed that the club would try to improve their midfield options, while Dusan Vlahovic of Fiorentina has been linked with a move to north London.

The Serbian star is expected to have a long list of suitors, but Arsenal appear to be in the strongest position to sign him this month.

The 21-year-old isn’t anticipated to be cheap, with some stating that he may cost up to £150 million, but that hasn’t scared the Gunners hierarchy.
