Mikel Arteta 14th red cards

Mikel Arteta Arsenal suffered yet another Red Card last night at Emirates Stadium, taking the tally to 14th Red card since Mikel Arteta took charge of the team.

In the second half, Thomas Partey was introduced and was quickly booked twice.

The midfielder, who had just returned from the AFCON, had a humiliating cameo.

A wild challenge on Fabinho earned the second yellow, which could have been a red. Fans and analysts slammed the midfielder, who is the latest Gunners player to receive a red card.

If there was one item that summed up Arsenal’s disappointing night, it was Thomas Partey’s late red card, which negated the reasons for sending him home to Africa and enraged Mikel Arteta.

Partey was picked as a replacement against Liverpool barely 48 hours after representing Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations, arriving in London around midday on Thursday, just under eight hours before kick-off.

Partey sat on the bench, swaddled in numerous layers of clothes as temperatures plummeted below zero, until summoned in the closing stages, having left the lush climes of Cameroon behind.

Partey was introduced in the 74th minute to replace Alexandre Lacazette, although he only lasted about 20 minutes on the pitch. Rowe, who appeared to be suffering from jet lag, was sent out after receiving two yellow cards in 3 minutes, the latter for a dangerous challenge on Fabinho.

Rodgers bemoans Leicester’s folly, while Conte praises Spurs’ tenacity.

‘It’s a great loss,’ Arteta grumbled. ‘With the players we have out, we can’t afford to be without him.’

‘We have to take something away from that.’ We’ve lately played three games with ten men, which is impossible to achieve against top teams. It’s difficult enough to beat them with 11 guys; with ten, it’s a different story.

It was Arteta’s 14th red cards in just over two years, including 3 in the last 4 games. In an FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest, they tried to keep 11 players on the pitch.
